Lamprecht Endowment Awards Two Scholarships to MBHS Seniors

San Luis Obispo, CA. (May 20, 2020) —The San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts Ensemble is celebrating 44 amazing years of making beautiful choral music for audiences in San Luis Obispo County and around the world! Under the musical direction of Founder Gary Lamprecht, along with long-time accompanist Barbara Hoff, Vocal Arts continues to influence the musical experience of San Luis Obispo residents, despite having to cancel our March and June 2020 concert series due to COVID-19.

This week, the Vocal Arts scholarship committee, consisting of Gary & Patricia Lamprecht, Leslie McKinley, Bert & Candace Forbes and Carol Sinsheimer, awarded two $1000 scholarships to two deserving local singers to use towards college tuition, from the Gary & Patricia Lamprecht Music Education Endowment Scholarship Fund. The endowment was started four years ago on the 40th anniversary of the founding of Vocal Arts to honor our founder, Gary Lamprecht and his wife Patricia’s contribution to local music education, and has grown to over $50,000 in donations. This is the 6th and 7th award given to two local high school seniors since the endowment’s establishment.

Amalia Fleming is a senior at Morro Bay High School and was recommended by her voice coach, former Vocal Arts member and long-time local favorite songstress, Inga Swearingen. Amalia was featured on NPR (National Public Radio) after performing “Renegades” at a gun violence prevention rally and recently preformed at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco.

Marisa Dinsmoor is also a senior at Morro Bay High School and is considering a Musical Theater major course of study in Colorado in the Fall. She has been cast in three PCPA productions, and gained valuable experience at the Syracuse University Musical Theater & Acting Pre-College program in the summer of 2019.

The Vocal Arts hopes to start the 2020-2021 season in early December with their annual holiday concert series. The season brochure will be released in late August and ticket will go on sale on the website, www.vocalarts.org, that week.
