The San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts Ensemble will again produce the annual Central Coast Spring School Choral Festival at the Performing Arts Center on March 21 and 22. The festival, now in it's third decade, provides a professional, adjudicated experience for school choirs to rehearse, perform, and receive feedback on their performance from professional judges, in the world-class environment of the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center's Harmon Hall. The objective is to improve the quality of musicianship and stage presence of these groups while giving them exposure to the University and its music programs.
Vocal Arts will welcome over 60 school choirs this year, a mix of elementary schools (5%), middle schools (40%) and high schools (58%), from ages 7-18 years of age. Schools are mostly from San Luis Obispo County, with some choirs coming from Santa Barbara County, the Central Valley, and a few from as far away as the Bay Area and Los Angeles. This is a mix of private schools, inner city public schools and rural public schools, representing a very diverse group of school age children, many of who might not otherwise get to see the inside of the beautiful Performing Arts Center, let alone perform on its stage.
This event is free and open to the public, with performances from 10:00AM to 6:00PM on Thursday and 10:00AM to 9:00PM on Friday. The event is produced by volunteers from the Vocal Arts Ensemble, a 501c3 nonprofit choir that has been performing in San Luis Obispo County and around the world for over 40 years.
